Humana Foundation Gives $640,500 To Address Food Insecurity
The Humana Foundation is investing $640,500 with Feeding Tampa Bay Food Pharmacy program to address food insecurity.

TAMPA, FL — The Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Humana Inc., is investing $640,500 with Feeding Tampa Bay Food Pharmacy program to address food insecurity.
“We’re excited to continue working with The Humana Foundation to combat food insecurity in the greater Tampa Bay region,” said Thomas Mantz, president and CEO of Feeding Tampa Bay. “This investment helps us reach more people in need, as well as work with the Community Health Centers of Pinellas to launch the Food Pharmacy program reach.”
Feeding Tampa Bay is the largest food rescue and distribution center in the region, serving more than 700,000 hungry people in 10 counties. It will use The Humana Foundation’s investment to fund Feeding Tampa Bay Food Pharmacy, transforming affordable access to healthy food in partnership with local clinics and other social service providers. Community Health Centers of Pinellas will be a key partner in this work, creating an onsite food pharmacy at the CHCP clinic and increasing access to healthy foods for the neighborhood surrounding the clinic.

The Humana Foundation began partnering with Tampa Bay organizations in 2018, initially investing $620,000 with Wholesome Wave, a cross-sector collaboration designed to transform affordable access to healthy food. Together, Wholesome Wave, Feeding Tampa Bay, Community Health Centers of Pinellas and other partners linked more than 2,500 food insecure patients to access to healthy food through a prescription produce program.
“The Humana Foundation’s Strategic Community Investments holistically address social determinants of health locally, working to close measurable gaps in health outcomes,” said Walter D. Woods, CEO of The Humana Foundation. “Our relationships and partnerships in Tampa Bay are beginning to create meaningful, sustainable change. I look forward to the positive results we’ll achieve in the coming year with Feeding Tampa Bay.”
