Illuminated Boat Parade and Holiday Festival Is Tonight in St. Pete

Make a night of watching the Christmas flotilla, with a chili supper first at Spa Beach, in downtown St. Petersburg. Chili is cooking at 3; the boat parade is under way at 7.

One of the prettier Christmastime events in St. Petersburg is the Bruce Watters Jewelers Illuminated Boat Parade and Holiday Festival. On December 11th, Tampa Bay will shimmer from the illumination, as sailboats, yachts and other watercraft -- all festooned with lights -- make a slow journey along the downtown waterfront on Saturday.

Spa Beach Park, 615 2ndAve. NE, is the central gathering point and best place to watch. With temperatures expected to hover in the 50s, it will be chilly enough to actually feel like Christmas.

A  Chili Cook Off precedes the watery parade, from 3-6 p.m. Local restaurants will compete to prepare the best chili. Local celebs will judge. The public is invited for dinner.
