ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The Independent Bar is closing its doors permanently in St. Petersburg as of Oct. 2.

The Edge District staple, located at 1049 Central Avenue – right at the roundabout – announced its closure on Facebook Saturday “with a heavy heart.”

“This amazing place will forever have a place in our hearts, and we will always appreciate the community that has supported us these past six years,” the owners wrote in a post. “Our last two weeks will be full of love, live music and celebration.”

The bar will continue to host events through its last two weeks in business, including:

“We cannot thank everyone enough for the amazing years and memories we have shared together, and we look forward to seeing everyone for one last beer before we go,” the owners wrote.

The Independent first opened its doors in April 2005, closing for four years in 2012. It later reopened in its current location in 2016, according to the bar’s website.

The beer hall is open seven days a week and features 24 taps with local and world craft beer styles, as well as limited release bottles and cans, and a curated selection of wine.

The owners told Creative Loafing that they’re selling the building, not the brand, to Ryan Griffin, who helped create The Mandarin Hide and Trophy Fish.
