Is Rays Touch Tank Cruel to Animals?
PETA argues that home run balls that land in the touch tank at Tropicana Field during Tampa Bay Rays games are out of bounds for the humane treatment of the fish.
A home run ball that splash-landed into the rays touch tank aquarium at the Trop has prompted a protest letter from PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The group is requesting that the Tampa Bay Rays remove the popular touch tank, which is behind the right-center field wall at Tropicana Field, the Tampa Tribune reports.
The protest letter was sent a week after Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers hit a home run ball that dove into the fish tank. No ray was beaned in the incident.
The letter noted that the placement of the tank puts the fish in danger from flying baseballs.
