K9 Hero Headlining Doughnut Fundraiser

Visitors can meet the four-legged officer who was bit by a rattlesnake and survived.

Make no bones about it: Special Olympics is pretty darn special to local cops.

Proving that point, St. Petersburg Police K9 Ajax and his human partner Officer Joe Lehmann both plan to make an appearance at Thursday’s Cops on Doughnut Shops fundraiser at Krispy Kreme, 9100 4th St. N. The March 26 event runs from 6 to 10 a.m. with proceeds going to Special Olympics.

During the festivities, police officers will be on the building’s roof and in its parking lot accepting donations for the nonprofit organization that enables special needs children to experience an Olympic-style sporting event. Participants will receive doughnuts in exchange for their donations. Those donations add up to:

  • $1 for a free glazed doughnut
  • $20 for a free dozen
  • $200 or more gets the donor 12 free dozen coupons

While Ajax, the K9 who survived a rattlesnake bit last week, will steal the show, Chief Anthony Holloway and Mary Rick Kriseman also plan to attend and show their support. They’ll be on hand from 7 to 8 a.m.

Cops throughout the Tampa Bay area are taking part in the Krispy Kreme fundraiser.
