Knox Medical Opens Medical Marijuana Dispensary In St. Petersburg

State officials estimate that medical marijuana will become a $1.5 billion industry by the year 2020.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Pinellas County patients authorized to use medical marijuana products have a new place to pick up a supply of the drug.

Knox Medical opened its newest medical marijuana dispensary Wednesday at 601 34th St. N., St. Petersburg.

This is the first Knox Medical dispensary in Tampa Bay. The company, based in Miami, has five other dispensaries in Florida. It is among 13 medical marijuana providers licensed by the state.

With the opening of the new Knox dispensary, Tampa Bay now has seven dispensaries. A total of 18 have opened throughout Florida since the Florida Legislature passed a bill in 2014 allowing the cultivating and dispensing of medical marijuana.

Other Tampa Bay dispensaries include Trulieve in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Bradenton and Tampa, Grow Healthy Florida Dispensary in Lakeland, Altmed Florida Dispensary in Sarasota and Surterra Wellness Dispensary in Tampa.

Knox Medical's website notes that the new St. Petersburg dispensary will serve Pinellas Park, Seminole, Treasure Isand and other parts of Pinellas County.

In addition to dispensing products containing the chemicals THC and CBD extracted from marijuana plants, Knox will deliver products to the homes of any patients in the area who qualify for a cannabis prescription and are listed on the state’s Compassionate Use Registry. There are currently more than 37,000 patients on the registry.

Knox cannabis products include oil drops, creams to vaporizing cartridges to treat post-traumatic stress disorder, seizure disorders. Parkinson’s Disease, AIDS and HIV, cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Multiple
Sclerosis, ALS and chronic pain. The products are manufactured with marijuana grown at Knox Nursery,
a second-generation nursery located in Winter Garden. The nursery is one of Florida's largest marijuana growers, producing 125million marijuana plants a year.

There are currently 17 nurseries in Florida licensed to grow marijuana with a dozen more awaiting approval. State officials estimate that medical marijuana will become a $1.5 billion industry by the year 2020.
