Man Arrested For DUI After Hitting FL Highway Patrol Car: Police

A 75-year-old Ontario man was charged after he hit the patrol car in a marked construction zone in Pinellas County, police said.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — An Ontario man was charged after authorities said he struck a Florida Highway Patrol car Monday while driving through a construction zone, according to police.

Wayne Murray Cole, 75, was arrested for driving under the influence following the crash, FHP said in a release. According to authorities, Cole was driving eastbound on Park Boulevard shortly after 8 p.m. when his Audi collided with the passenger side of a marked FHP patrol car parked in the left lane.

According to police, the crash happened in a marked construction zone. The patrol car was parked behind traffic cones at the time of the crash, police said.

Following the crash, police said Cole continued to drive east until he was stopped by a trooper a short time later.

According to authorities, Cole provided a breath sample of 0.092.

Neither Cole nor the trooper were injured in the crash, police said. Damage to both vehicles was minor.
