Man Charged in Child Porn, Molestation Case

The St. Petersburg man was brought into custody Wednesday.

A 46-year-old St. Petersburg man faces criminal charges after Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies say they caught him in possession of child pornography.

That find, the sheriff’s office wrote in an email, led to the discovery that the man had molested a young girl more than a year ago.

The case against Stanley Dewey Peters began to unfold on Aug. 14 when the agency’s Special Victims Unit received information that he might be in possession of child pornography, the email stated. An investigation was launched and detectives did recover pornographic images depicting children from Peters’ computer, the email said.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives also say they discovered that Peters molested a now 8-year-old girl when she was about 6 or 7.

Peters was brought into custody Wednesday, Oct. 14, on 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation. He was being held in the Pinellas County Jail Thursday without bond.
