Man Jumped from Skyway Bridge, Officials Say

A man who jumped from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge Friday morning is being treated at Bayfront Health for serious injuries.

According to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, that agency was called out to the bridge around 11:10 a.m. after a man in his mid-40s jumped from the span to the water below.

“The individual was pulled from the water by passersby in the area and brought to O’Neil’s Marina,” the agency wrote in an email to media. “Fire boat 11 evaluated the patient and upgraded the patient to a trauma alert due to injuries sustained from the fall.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is handling the follow-up investigation, fire rescue reported.
