The construction worker was struck as the bulldozer backed up.

A 27-year-old Dade City man is dead following an accident on a St. Petersburg construction site Wednesday morning.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, officers were called to 10980 Oak St. N.E. around 10 a.m. An apartment complex is under construction at that location. When officers arrived, they found Justin H. Smith of Dade City dead at the scene.

Smith, who works for API Services, was standing behind the bulldozer when it backed up, police said. The bulldozer’s driver, Albert Kimball, 37, was not injured but was taken to Tampa General Hospital after the accident for precautionary reasons, the police department noted.
