Motor Scooter Rider Killed in Crash

A 38-year-old St. Petersburg man is dead following a Thursday night crash.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, Eric Kalnasky was traveling northbound on 16th Street in the median lane just after 8 p.m. when the wreck occurred. At that time, a 2007 Volkswagen driven by Nicole Heidi Klumpp was heading southbound on 16th Street. Klumpp attempted to make a left turn onto 18th Avenue North, but crossed into the path of Kalnasky’s motor scooter.

Kalnasky applied the rear brake and laid the scooter down on its right side, but it still collided with the right front corner of the Volkswagen, police said.

Kalnasky, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he died a short time later.

The investigation is ongoing.
