Motorcyclist Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash: St. Petersburg Police

A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon on 22nd Avenue S., St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon in St. Petersburg, authorities said.

Jonathan Hughes, 57, was heading west on 22nd Avenue S. approaching 45th Street S. when he was hit by a white Jeep Grand Cherokee around 3:30 p.m., according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

The Jeep was traveling east on 22nd Avenue S. and trying to turn north onto 45th Street S. at the time.

The Jeep’s unknown driver failed to yield to the right of way, turning into Hughes’ path and causing the crash, police said.

Hughes was brought to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Jeep’s driver left the scene of the crash.

Investigators are looking for the Jeep and its driver. The vehicle has frontend damage to the passenger side, police said.
