Murals Coming to Central Arts District
The colorful murals will be created on concrete planters in the 400 block of Central Avenue.

Concrete planters along the Central Arts District will become a lot more colorful in the coming days asΒ local artist Sebastian Coolidge will create a series of murals on them.Β
The Central Arts District, which is located onΒ Central Avenue between 4th and 9th Streets, announced Tuesday that it commissioned Collidge to create the murals.Β
According to a news release,Β Coolidge will begin work on the planters on today and estimates the project will take a week to complete. The six images will pay homage to St. Petersburgβs love affair with the bicycle and feature Sebastianβs treatment of animals on bicycles while utilizing the trees in the planters for animal bodies from the waist up.
βWe are pleased to see more murals and especially this caliber in the district and especially this caliber in the district and especially on this block of Central Avenue,β stated Diane Shelly, Executive Director of nearby Florida Craftsmen Gallery in a news release. βSebastian is a talented artist and we want to have art in the district by the artists who live and work in the district,β added Sara Stonecipher, owner of MisRED Outfitters in the district.Β
βWe are now over ten murals in this district,β stated Morean Arts Center interim director, Wayne Atherholt added in a new release. He said βthese outdoor works of art are all in a very walkable environment and will have great appeal to visitors and residents.β
