Shooting Victim Found Dead in the Street, Cops Say

The man died Tuesday night from an apparent gunshot wound.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a Tuesday night shooting that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man.

According to the agency, officers received a call just before midnight Tuesday about a man lying in the road at 27th Street and 26th Avenue South. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man dead in the road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Residents in the area reported hearing gunshots, the agency noted in an email to media.

The victim has been identified as Malcom Trevon Moses Lawrence. Police say they do not believe the incident was random, but are releasing no further information at this time.

Homicide investigators are working the case.
