New officers named for Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (Dec. 19, 2019) – The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council elected new board officers for 2020 at its December meeting, and the leadership reflects the Council’s geographic reach, with leaders hailing from Manatee, Pinellas, Pasco and Citrus counties.

Patrick Roff is the new chair of the board, Bob Matthews is vice-chair, Jack Mariano is secretary-treasurer and Ron Kitchen Jr. is immediate past-chair.

Patrick Roff is serving his fourth term on the Bradenton City Council. He is also vice-chair of the Manatee-Sarasota Metropolitan Planning Organization, and serves as secretary-treasurer of the Manasota League of Cities. He also serves on the Florida League of Cities board of directors and the advisory board of the Sarasota-Bradenton Regional Airport. He is one of the few elected officials in the history of the Regional Planning Council to serve twice as Chair.

Bob Matthews, vice-chair

Bob Matthews has served on the Seminole City Council since 1990, except for a 20-month break in the mid-2000s, and also has served three stints as vice mayor. In the community, he is a volunteer with the Seminole Pow Wow Festival. Mr. Matthews has served on the Regional Planning Council for more than 20 years, longer than any other current member.

Jack Mariano, secretary-treasurer

First elected in 2004 to the Pasco County Commission, Jack Mariano is currently serving his fourth term. He is a past chairman of the Pasco County board of commissioners as well as of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council.

Ron Kitchen Jr., immediate past-chair

A Citrus County commissioner since 2014, Ron Kitchen began representing Citrus County on the Regional Planning Council in 2014. Kitchen has served as chairman of the Citrus County board of commissioners, and as a member of the Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization, Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority, and Citrus County Tourist Development Council.

The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council works with 27 west-central Florida municipalities to assist the municipalities as they make long-range plans related to the future of the Tampa Bay region. The Council’s work focuses on resiliency, planning for climate change and sea level rise, environmental management, water quality, emergency preparedness planning, protection and restoration of the Tampa Bay estuary, economic analysis, coastal zone management, housing and infrastructure analysis, hurricane evacuation and recovery planning, development of regional impact review, local government comprehensive plan reviews, cross acceptance, dispute resolution and reviews of transportation plans.
