‘No Active Shooter’ At SPC Gibbs, Lockdown Lifted: Police

Possible gunshots were heard near St. Petersburg College's Gibbs campus Tuesday morning, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A lockdown at St. Petersburg College’s Gibbs campus was lifted Thursday afternoon after “no active shooter” was found on campus, St. Petersburg police tweeted.

Just before 10 a.m., possible gun shots were reported in the area of 5th Avenue N. and 66th Street, near the campus, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

“Officers responded as a precaution and confirm no activity or shooter on campus,” according to the agency.

While there was no indication of an active shooter on campus, SPC said in a tweet that it followed “all security protocols.”

SPC added, “Lockdown at the Gibbs campus has been lifted. St. Petersburg police and college security determined there was no incident on campus.”
