Nude Mediation Lands Man in Jail

Police say they found him sitting near a St. Pete bus stop last week.

Motorists who happened by a St. Petersburg bus stop last week may have gotten more than an eyeful courtesy of a man police say was engrossed in meditation.

While that act of reflection normally doesn’t result in an arrest, it did for 46-year-old Carl Wright. It seems the man, described as a transient by police, happened to be meditating in the buff, according to an email from the agency.

The incident that led to Wright’s latest visit to the Pinellas County Jail unfolded around 9:48 a.m. May 27 when an officer responded to a complaint call about a nude man sitting behind the bus stop in the 9400 block of 4th Street, the email said.

When the officer went out to the location to check on the reported spectacle, Wright, the agency email stated, was indeed “sitting naked in a meditation-like pose.” The act, police said, “occurred in plain, public sight.”

Wright was booked into the Pinellas jail on a single misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He remained behind bars Monday in lieu of $250 bond.
