One Man Dead, One Wounded In St. Pete Shootings: Police

The St. Petersburg Police Department said a man faces a murder charge after killing one man and injuring another in a parking lot shooting.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 38-year-old man was shot and killed, and another man was injured, in a shooting that took place early Saturday morning at Food Max Meat Market in St. Petersburg, police said.

Authorities said a crowd gathered outside the store at 1400 18th Avenue South, and the victims and the suspect, 49-year-old Darren Williams, argued.

Williams shot two men in the exchange, killing Bernard Nixon, according to the police affidavit.

The other victim was last listed Saturday in critical condition at a local hospital. Authorities did not release the second victim's name.

Deputies arrested Williams after the shooting, and the St. Petersburg Police Department says he faces charges of felon in possession of a firearm, murder in the second-degree (attempt) and murder in the second degree.
