Outdoor Mural Celebrates Life on the Bay
St. Petersburg artist John Comer celebrates the completion of his latest mural with art students at The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay.

St. Petersburg, Fla. – One year after the idea was proposed by residents of The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay, a seascape mural has come to life on an exterior building wall, welcoming residents and guests to 1255 Pasadena Avenue South. With the sparkling waters of Boca Ciega Bay as inspiration, painting instructor John Comer (who’s been teaching residents here for about 14 years) got to work. A campaign to raise funds was spearheaded by resident Kay Lahdenpera, and donations poured in by the hundreds from residents and various Fountains clubs such as the Greeting Card Club and the Stitch in Time Sewing Club.
The new mural was unveiled on Tuesday, September 23rd at a ribbon cutting ceremony with resident supporters and the artist.
John Comer is a popular art instructor and muralist at The Fountains. Dozens of residents join his sunset beach plein air painting class. John was recently featured on Fox 13’s What’s Right with Tampa Bay for his dedication to providing art therapy to retirement communities throughout the bay area.
