Pedestrian Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash

A search is now on for the motorist involved in the St. Pete crash.

A 55-year-old St. Petersburg man is dead following a fatal crash early Saturday morning.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, Jeffrey Carl Remmel was walking west on the north sidewalk of 38th Avenue North in the 4400 block just after midnight when he lost his balance. Remmel, police said, fell into the westbound curb lane and was struck by a vehicle.

The motorist fled the scene. Remmel was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:39 a.m. by St. Petersburg Fire Rescue.

At this time, police do not know the make and model of the vehicle involved. They are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or who has information about it to contact them at 727-893-7780.
