Pedestrian Killed in St. Pete Crash

Driver impairment is suspected.

A 46-year-old woman was killed in an early Sunday morning crash on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, Dennis James Jones, 62, was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger eastbound in the 2300 block of Central Avenue around 3 a.m. when the crash occurred.

The woman, identified as Jennifer Lee Miller, was crossing mid-block from the south side of Central Avenue to the north side at the time. Jones, police wrote in an email to media, turned his attention from the road and failed to see a group of pedestrians cross in front of him.
