Edmond, Eggers, Others Take Lead In Pinellas County Primary Election
Incumbents Caprice Edmond and Dave Eggers are among candidates taking the lead in Pinellas County's primary election.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Multiple candidates pulled ahead as preliminary results rolled in Tuesday night in the races for Pinellas County Commission and Pinellas County School Board, including commission incumbent Dave Eggars and school board incumbent Caprice Edmunds, according to unofficial results from the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections.
All precincts had their returns reported as of Tuesday at 9:06 p.m., according to the office's website.
Polls closed at 7 p.m. and local results started being reported shortly thereafter. Florida counties are required to release updates every 45 minutes until they have completed their counts, Mark Ard, a spokesman for the Florida Department of State, told the New York Times.

Pinellas County Commission
Vying for the Republican vote in District 2, Brian Scott had the lead over his opponent Debbie Buschman with 66.25 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections. The winner will face Democrat incumbent Pat Gerard in the Nov. 8 general elections.
In District 4, just two Republicans were on the ballot — incumbent Dave Eggers and challenger Heather Aynne Vernillo. Eggers had lead in this race, earning 67.77 percent of the vote as of 8 p.m., according to unofficial results.
In three districts, candidates were running unchallenged — Republican Chris Latvala in District 5, Republican Kathleen Peters in District 6 and Democrat Rene Flowers in District 7.
Both Peters and Flowers are incumbents, while Latvala joins the board after serving as a Florida state House representative.
Pinellas County School Board
Four school board seats were also on the ballot in Tuesday’s primary.
In District 2, Lisa Cane, Brad S. DeCorte and Bronson Oudshoff vied for the seat. With all districts reporting, Cane has the lead with 55.69 percent of the vote, unofficial results show.
“I can’t thank Pinellas County enough! I am humbled and overwhelmed! I promise to give it my all again in the next (four) years,” Cane shared on her campaign Facebook page.
In District 3, Dr. Keesha Benson, Dawn Peters and Carl “Z” Zimmermann tried to win the race. Benson and Peters are neck-and-neck, earning 39.87 percent and 38.19 percent of the vote, respectively, according to unofficial results.
Three candidates hoped to be elected to represent District 6 — Brian M. Martin, Stephanie Meyer and Kimberly Works. Meyer had the lead with 47.47 percent of the vote, unofficial results showed.
In District 7, Maria Di Fiore Solanki challenged incumbent Caprice Edmond for her seat. Edmond had a strong lead with 64.97 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.
“With unofficially having 64.97% of the votes I will continue the important work of being your School Board Member. Thank you voters, volunteers, donors and supporters,” Edmond wrote on her campaign’s Facebook page. “The work continues! Thank you very much for your support.”
In races with more than two candidates, if no candidates earn more than 50 percent of the vote, then the top two vote getters will face off in the Nov. 8 general election.
