Body Found Near Skyway Pier Is Missing Tampa Teen: Police

St. Petersburg, FL — The body found by a fisherman Wednesday afternoon near the Skyway Pier has been confirmed by St. Petersburg Police to be the missing 16-year-old Tampa boy authorities began searching for earlier in the day.

According to the agency, Brandon Sun went with friends to the Skyway Bridge to hang out around 11 p.m. on Monday. Brandon’s friends told police he “was using drugs and walked away from the group at 3 a.m. Tuesday,” an email from the police department said.

The friends attempted to find Brandon, police said, but were unsuccessful.

Brandon’s mother contacted Tampa Police around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police noted Brandon had run away in the past.

Tampa police searched for the teen, but were also unsuccessful. They contacted St. Petersburg Police for assistance.

A search for the boy near the Skyway Bridge was kicked off by St. Petersburg Police early Wednesday morning.
