Crist, Welch Lead St. Pete Mayoral Race: Pinellas Election Unofficial Results

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Charlie Crist was ahead of the pack in St. Petersburg’s mayoral race with all precincts reporting as of 10:40 p.m. in Tuesday’s Pinellas County primary elections, according to the unofficial results from the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections.

Crist earned about 35.28 percent of the vote, the unofficial results show.

Incumbent Ken Welch was behind him with 20.6 percent of the vote, while other candidates in the race have earned the following percentages, according to unofficial results:

• Kevin Batdorf - 3.43 percent
• Brandi Gabbard - 17.55 percent
• Jim Large - 17.95 percent
• Maria Scruggs - 5.18 percent

In the St. Petersburg City Council District 6 race, as of 10:40 p.m., Linsey Grove held the lead with 28.35 percent of the vote, the unofficial results show.

Her opponents earned the following percentages of the vote:

• Terri Balliet - 16.86 percent
• Doug Homeyer - 16.44 percent
• Trevor Mallory - 22.61 percent
• Jameka Williams - 15.74 percent

In both the District 6 and mayoral elections, if there is no clear winner, the top two vote-getters will head to a Nov. 3 run-off.

Other Key Races

Voters in St. Petersburg, Clearwater and across Pinellas County took to the polls in other key races Tuesday, including federal, state and local elections.

Pinellas County School Board

Incumbent Lisa Cane held a lead over her opponent for the Pinellas County School Board District 2 seat Tuesday night, with all precincts reporting as of 10:45 p.m., according to unofficial results.

Cane earned about 54.87 percent of the vote compared to Nancy Velardi, who took home 45.13 percent, the results show.

The District 3 school board race remained close on Tuesday night with incumbent Dawn Peters holding a slight lead with 36.24 percent of the vote, unofficial results show.

Behind her were Curtis Campogni and Dawn Douglas, who earned 34.91 and 28.85 percent of the vote, respectively.

The top two vote-getters in District 3 will face off in a Nov. 3 runoff election.

The race in District 6 was also tight with Nancy Nelis Bostock earning 50.12 percent of the vote, just ahead of opponent Amanda Lord, who earned 49.88 percent.

Pinellas County Commission

Incumbent Dave Eggers, a Republican, held a significant lead over his opponent in the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners District 4 race, with all precincts reporting results as of 8:45 p.m., according to unofficial results.

Eggers earned about 78.54 percent of the result compared to his opponent, Anthony Ringelspaugh, who won 21.46 percent.

This race was a universal Republican primary with no Democratic candidate.
