Pregnant Woman Critically Injured in Pedestrian Crash
She was struck while crossing 1st Avenue.

A Town N’ Country woman suffered life-threatening injuries following an accident on 1st Avenue North in St. Petersburg Wednesday afternoon.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, a 2011 Dodge tow truck, owned by A-1 Towing, was heading northbound on 3rd Street just before 3 p.m. The truck’s driver, Shaun Carlton Downing, 27, of St. Petersburg was attempting to make a left turn onto 1st Avenue North.
At that time, Jenny Quiles, 36, was walking eastbound on the south sidewalk of 1st. Avenue North.

Quiles turned to cross 1st Avenue and entered the road just west of the crosswalk right before the northbound light changed from green to yellow. She was halfway across the center lane as Downing turned during the yellow light, an email from the police department stated.
“The right front corner of the Dodge struck Quiles and projected her forward onto the pavement, where she struck her head,” the email said.

Quiles, who is about 33 weeks pregnant, was taken Bayfront Medical Center. She and the baby are listed in critical condition, police stated. They described her injuries as life-threatening.
The investigation is ongoing.
