MOSCOW, RUSSIA -- In his televised State of the Nation Address Thursday, March 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled a new "unstoppable" ballistic missile that Russia has developed and presented a video animation of the weapon preparing to strike Tampa Bay.
Putin told the Russian people during his two-hour speech in Moscow that the "new supersonic weapon" has already been successfully tested and said it's infallibility could lead to a new arms race with the United States.
According to Putin, the new intercontinental missile can fly at 20 times the speed of sound to anywhere in the world and can not be intercepted by "any antimissile system on Earth."

In an interview with NBC News, Putin said Russia's new weapons were developed in response to the United States' withdrawal in 2002 from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, which prohibited nationwide missile defenses.
Putin did not comment on the fact that his missiles appeared to be directed toward Tampa Bay, headquarters for the country's military, U.S. Central Command (USCentcom) at MacDill Air Force Base.
Political commentators speculate that, although he was addressing members of parliament, Putin's comments were aimed at President Donald Trump, who has yet to respond to Putin's announcement.
