ARLINGTON, TX — The Tampa Bay Rays were overpowered by Los Angeles Dodgers pitching and lost the World Series in Game 6 on Tuesday night, 3-1.

The Rays were unable to regain their early lead after falling behind in the sixth inning.

This was the Rays' second trip to a World Series; the first time was in 2008, when they lost to the Phillies.

Seventh Inning Updates:

As the Rays tried to climb back up in the seventh inning after falling behind in the sixth, the team stayed behind with weak batting as Willy Adames grounded out to first and Kevin Kiermaier lined out to left. There was a twinkle of hope for a scoring run when Mike Zunino singled to left, but that came to a screeching halt when Yandy Diaz struck out looking to end the top of the seventh.

Hearts of Rays' fans may have dropped in the pit of their stomach for a slight second when the Dodgers' Will Smith almost hit a home run off Peter Fairbanks; the ball was hit deep and bounced off the wall, giving Smith a double.

The Dodgers were unable to score in the seventh inning.

Inning 6 Updates:

The Rays had a hot start in Game 6 thanks to Randy Arozarena's solo home run in the first inning. But in the sixth inning, Kevin Cash took Blake Snell off the mound after Austin Barnes hit a single, and it seemed to spark the Dodgers.

Nick Andersen relieved Snell, who had nine strikeouts, but Andersen struggled. Barnes scored on a wild pitch by Andersen to tie the game at 1-1. Corey Seager grounded into a fielder's choice to first, and this allowed Betts to score, giving Los Angeles the lead, 2-1.

Game 6 Predictions:

The pressure had been on Tampa Bay Rays to win Game 6 on Tuesday night to advance to Game 7 for their chance to attempt a win as World Series champions. A loss in Game 6 means they kiss their chance goodbye.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a 3-2 lead in the World Series after a 4-2 game five win on Sunday.

The Rays' starting pitcher is Blake Snell, who pitched a no-hitter for the first four innins in Game 2 of the series.

The starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers is Tony Gonsolin.

If the Rays are going to force a game seven, the Tampa Bay bullpen will play a huge role, ESPN reported.

Predictions for Tuesday night's winner favor the Dodgers.

"I always root for a seven-game series, and we've come this far, but I picked the Dodgers over the Rays in six back in March, again in July and again at the start of the postseason," reported ESPN MLB insider David Schoenfield. "And that's how it's going to play out."
