Rescue Dog Donates Blood Serum For Stray Kitten’s Cornea Treatment
A kitten came to a St. Pete animal rescue group with an ulcer on her cornea. They used a blood donation from a rescue pup to treat her.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A St. Petersburg animal rescue group was able to save a stray kitten’s eye thanks to a blood serum donation by a rescue pooch named Blanche.
When Bridget the kitten recently came to Friends of Strays, she had an ulcer on her cornea.
“She most likely would have lost her eye if it was left untreated,” the organization posted to its Facebook page Tuesday. “Eye ulcers can be treated with serum, an ingredient in blood.”

Luckily, Blanche — who was adopted last week — stepped up as a blood donor.
Friends of Strays’ medical staff collected the serum, while Bridget’s foster mom applied it, as well as antibiotics, to her eye “every two to three hours for days to help it heal,” the organization said.

At the same time, the foster also cared for Bridget's siblings, Digit and Fidget.
Bridget’s eye is nearly healed, the group said. She and her siblings will be available for adoption soon.
