Resource Officer Uses Taser On Pinellas Middle School Student

The girl resisted a Pinellas Park school resource officer after fighting with another female student.

PINELLAS PARK, FL - A Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School student was stunned with a Taser after she resisted a Pinellas Park school resource officer during a fight with another female student Thursday afternoon, police said. Students were boarding buses when a fight broke out between two girls. Police did not provide ages of the girls.

As the school resource office attempted to break up the fight, one of the girls refused to comply with commands to stop fighting. The girl then began to physically resist and verbally threaten the officer before attempting to run away. The officer then deployed his department-issued Taser and used it on the girl, police said. Police did not identify the officer or the students.

Paramedics were summoned to the school to medically clear the female student who was Tasered and who suffered minor injuries as a result of the fight, police said. Criminal charges for the girl are being referred to the State Attorney's Office and she was released to the custody of her mother at the school.

The other girl involved in the fight got on her school bus and left campus. The girl was identified and she was contacted by school staff. Disciplinary action or possible criminal charges will be determined later for that student, police said.
