The smiling political operatives and politicians got to revel in their ability to thwart the wishes of the people. The Chamber gets another whack at turning the waterfront into a circus. The millennials get a Park they will talk about a lot and likely seldom use.

I didn’t see a lot of people from South St. Pete at the Goodby Party. I guess it’s hard to get excited about the City spending $70 million dollars on a front yard and park for the Beach Drive condos when your real worry is if your kid gets a decent education and makes it home safe from some of the worst schools in Florida.
Put me in the sad category because my thoughts ran to how much better it all could have been. If the City had practiced what it preached instead of conspiring to defeat the will of the people? If a Mayor had really led and not loaded the deck.

The “new pier” should be something that would draw us together so we could confront the problems that lay just a short distance away. Now we have a symbol that will divide us for a long time to come.
