Scooter Rider Killed In St. Pete Crash

The accident happened Tuesday night along 31st Street.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 43-year-old St. Petersburg woman is dead following a crash along 31st Street at 26th Avenue South Tuesday night.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department a 2002 Lexus driven by William McKinley Puller, 72, was heading south on 31st Street in the median lane around 9:25 p.m. At that time, a personal mobility device (scooter), driven by Suzette Crain was heading east on the north side of 26th Avenue South just outside the marked pedestrian crosswalk.

The front left of Puller’s vehicle struck the rear of the scooter, an email from the agency stated. Crain hit the car’s front fender and then fell to the pavement. Police say Crain was pronounced dead at the scene.

Puller stopped his Lexus on the south side of the intersection, police noted. He was not injured in the crash.

The investigation remains active with no charges filled at this time.
