Senior Housing Plan At Former Hospital Site Receives $1M Grant: SPHA

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg Housing Authority received a $1 million grant to redevelop the former Ed White Hospital site as affordable senior housing, as well as a new headquarters for the agency.

The agency received the $1 million grant for the $29 million project through the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, according to a news release. Its financial partner, Valley Bank, helped the housing agency secure the funds.

Once completed, the six-story, 121,000-square-foot building in North Kenwood will offer 71 apartments for low-income seniors, the agency said. The property will also be home to its new headquarters, as well as 1,939 square feet of leasable office space.

The project is expected to break ground on construction in the first quarter of 2024.

"This location seemed an ideal place for our administrative offices, as it will bring us closer to the people we serve," Michael Lundy, president and CEO of SPHA, said. "It also opens up the opportunity for us to consider future efforts in the area which includes a local park and walking trails."

The agency serves more than 4,000 low-income households in St. Petersburg with a mission is to enhance and promote resident self-sufficiency.

They offer a variety of social services programs, including one-on-one support, tools and resources. Key programming includes their Family Self-Sufficiency Program, Homeownership Program and Resident Support Services program.
