Should Gays Have The Same Rights as Other U.S. Citizens?

Supreme Court Gay Marriage Decision is a No-Brainer

Right now the Supreme Court is trying to decide if gay marriage is constitutional. A couple of the justices—dudes in dresses by the way — expressed concern that maybe they had no business “redefining marriage.” That is too funny. These are the same guys who declared that corporations are people! No biggie redefining personhood or democracy! I wonder what goes on in their minds sometimes.

I mean, seriously, what are they thinking when they hear the word “marriage” exactly? Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? One of the justices said something about marriage “bestowing dignity” so I’m guessing he’s not a big fan of the show. And he probably hasn’t seen too many episodes of Cheaters either. Now, to be fair, he did say that in support of the gays who wish to marry and declare their devotion to each other publicly and enjoy the same rights and financial benefits as other married couples. But I’ve been married twice and that dignity thing didn’t come up much.
But seriously, if gay marriage is “redefining” marriage then what’s the deal with Sister Wives? Do religious cults get to make their own rules? Don’t these justices ever lay down the Constitution and pick up a remote? Actually, maybe the problem is the opposite.
In the Preamble to the Constitution, it explains the purpose of the Constitution was to “…secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…” It doesn’t say “Heterosexuals only.” Also, according to the Bill of Rights (ninth amendment) the founding fathers admitted that they might not have thought of every single dingle thing here and so therefore in the future we must not use this list of ten must-have rights to be seen as a limitation of rights to be enjoyed by U.S. citizens. Rather, going forward we must take care to respect the as of yet unmentioned rights to be enjoyed by people living in a country that declares us all to be created equal.
