Skateboarding Contest at St. Pete's Fossil Park
Fresh from Clearwater's Ross Norton Skateboard Contest, competitors rolled into Fossil Park Skatepark for more friendly matchups.
Fresh from Clearwater's Ross Norton Skateboard Contest last weekend, competitors rolled into Fossil Park Skatepark in St. Petersburg for a contest Saturday afternoon that welcomed kids and adults.
The competition kicked off around noon with a good crowd of spectators to watch and just as many skaters in line to register for it.
Three catagories were set up to organize the participants, based on skill. There was even an "old man jam," which allowed the older guys to get out on the course to show their vintage tricks to the judges.

Songs from Sonic Youth and Nirvana played at full volume to keep the skateboarders' adrenaline flowing as they made their way around Fossil Park's course in temperatures that reached 100 degrees on the hot concrete. Luckily, spectators had some coverage from the direct sun, but it was still blazing even in the stands.
Prizes for the division winners included $20 cash and new Murder Ride skateboard decks.
