Skyway Bridge Opens After Fog Closing

Heavy fog in the Tampa Bay area forced the closing early Tuesday. More fog is likely heading into the overnight hours.

St. PETERSBURG, FL — Tampa Bay area motorists are once again free to use the Skyway Bridge.

The Florida Highway Patrol announced the bridge had reopened to traffic just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. Heavy fog that reduced visibility to less than 100 feet in some areas forced the bridge’s closing in the early morning hours.

The National Weather Service says dense fog is once again possible in the overnight hours Tuesday leading into Wednesday morning. Motorists are urged to use caution on area roads and to use their low beam headlines if they encounter patches of dense fog.
