‘Smooching Suspect’ From St. Pete Breaks Into North Fort Myers Home: Sheriff

A St. Petersburg man visiting the Fort Myers area broke into a home and tried to kiss a woman on the cheek, the sheriff's office said.

NORTH FORT MYERS, FL — A “smooching suspect” broke into a North Fort Myers home Monday and tried to kiss a woman inside, according to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Shawn Dale Pons, 36, of St. Petersburg has been charged with burglary with battery, the agency said.

When deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a home on Rideway Drive, they found Pons sitting in a car parked in the driveway.

During their investigation, they learned that he the home while the victim was doing laundry, grabbed her from behind and tried to forcibly kiss her on the cheek, LCSO said. The victim ran out of the home afraid and called 911.

Pons said he was visiting Fort Myers to help his brother with construction, according to the sheriff’s office.
