St. Pete Gets Perfect Score on LGBT Survey, Tampa Comes Close

The Human Rights Campaign ranks St. Petersburg among the nation's best cities for inclusion.

When it comes to inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents, St. Petersburg is among the best of the best. Tampa isn’t too far behind either.

That’s according to the Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign’s recently released 2014 Municipal Equality Index. The report scores cities across the country based on LGBT inclusion in policies and local laws.

St. Petersburg scored 100 out of 100 points, while Tampa finished up with a score of 97. Only two other cities in Florida – Orlando and Wilton Manors – aced the scorecard. Miami came in with 53 points, Tallahassee 81 and of the 15 cities ranked in Florida this year Port St. Lucie trailed the pack with 14 points. Jacksonville didn’t do much better with a total of 20 points.
