St. Pete Police Find 3 Starving Dogs Chained Up, 1 Dog Dead

A 44-year-old St. Petersburg man was charged with animal cruelty after police say he starved four of his dogs, killing one.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- A 44-year-old St. Petersburg man was charged with animal cruelty after police say he starved four of his dogs, killing one.

St. Petersburg Police arrested 44-year-old Antonio Lafayette Simmons of the 3100 block of 16th Avenue South after someone reported that four dogs were chained in his back yard and appeared malnourished.

When police arrived. they found one of the dogs had died. Police said it was so skin they could see its skeletal frame. It was still chained up and there were flies all of its body.

The other three were near death from starvation and dehydration, police said.

Simmons was placed in the Pinellas County jail and released on a $5,000 bond.
