St. Pete Prostitution Sweeps Net 13 Arrests

The police department conducted two sweeps during August arresting a number of people on prostitution charges.

After fielding resident and business complaints about prostitution within the city limits, the St. Petersburg Police Department responded by conducting not one, but two sweeps along 34th Street North.

The sweeps are part of an ongoing effort to crackdown on prostitution in the area, an email from spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez said.

A total of eight people were arrested during an Aug. 15 sweep and an operation conducted Wednesday netted five arrests.

“One interesting note is that yesterday’s operation began at 7 a.m., and most of the arrests occurred in the morning as people were heading to work,” Fernandez pointed out.

The names of those arrested have not yet been released, but the department did put out a video that chronicles the operations.
