6 Guns Seized After St. Pete Standoff

The incident began to unfold off Cherry Street early Thursday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A 60-year-old St. Petersburg man is being held in the Pinellas County Jail without bond after a standoff with police Thursday morning.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, David William Wood surrendered peacefully around 9:15 a.m. and has since been charged with one count of domestic-related aggravated assault. That count stems from an altercation between Wood and his adult son, police wrote in an email to media.

Police say Wood was arguing with his son when he pointed a black 9mm handgun at him.

“He then turned and fired numerous times into the walls and ceiling of the apartment,” an email from the agency stated. “The son, who was not injured, fled from the apartment and called police.”

That call to police was placed early Thursday morning, resulting in a several-hour standoff outside the apartment building at 1190 Cherry St. N.E. Police say Wood came out of the home around 8:30 a.m. No one was injured in the standoff.
