St. Pete This Week: Jazz, Rays Return, Goin' to the Go Gos

The first week in August will be busy and entertaining, with jazz at the Hangar, baseball at the Trop, First Friday on Central Ave. and the Go Gos in town.

1.) Monday:  Tonight is the First Monday Jazz Jam at , featuring the Al Downing Jazz Association. Admission is free. The Hangar is at 540 First St SE, on the grounds of Albert Whitted Airport.

2.) Tuesday: After nearly two weeks on the road, the Rays are back at to play the Blue Jays at 7:10 p.m. But with the Rays dropping further rom the playoff picture, does anyone care? If you think there’s plenty of baseball to be played, you can go to raysbaseball.com to get tickets and information.

3.) Wednesday: Looking for something cool to do with the kids? The will present “The Last Airbender” today at 10 a.m. Admission is free for children and their adult chaperones.

4.) Thursday: Tonight, from 7 to 9 p.m., marks the first “Mayor’s Night Out” since summer hiatus. Bill Foster, city officials and service providers will be at the Lake Vista Center, 1401 62nd Ave. S. Foster plans to do one of these sessions monthly in each of the city’s districts. Go to www.stpete.org.

5.) Friday:  The First Friday Party will be in full swing on Central Avenue, which will be blocked off from Second to Third Streets, with outdoor drinking allowed and live music. And speaking of live music, The Go Gos are scheduled to play at Tropicana Field after the Rays game finishes, probably about 9:30 p.m. To get in to see The Go Gos, you will need a game ticket. The concert is not to be confused with a post-game show featuring the Goo Goo Dolls on Saturday.
