St. Petersburg Named 1 of Kiplinger’s Best Places to Retire

St. Petersburg, FL — When it comes to places that support a healthy, active retirement lifestyle, it’s hard to top St. Petersburg.

At least, that’s the conclusion the folks at Kiplinger magazine came to after crunching statistics for its “Great Places to Retire for Your Good Health” rankings. The magazine selected St. Petersburg for its list of 12 cities across the country. Naples is the only other Florida city on the list.

Kiplinger staff used data provided by Trulia to create its listing. The types of metrics counted included neighborhoods with access to trails, parks, golf courses, hospitals and pharmacies. “We chose retirement destinations that are havens for healthy living, with lots of opportunities to pursue an active lifestyle and great medical facilities,” Kiplinger staff wrote.

Other cities that made the grade include Lynchburg, Va., Billings, Mont., Augusta, Ga., and Seattle.

As for St. Petersburg’s inclusion on the list, Kiplinger explained, “You can easily bike or walk to the neighborhood bars and restaurants and to St. Pete’s artsy downtown, anchored by the marvelous Dali Museum and the antique district on Central Avenue.”

Florida was also named by the magazine as one of the Best States for Retirement 2016. The magazine noted Florida’s tax rating for retirees was the “most tax friendly.”

St. Petersburg is no stranger to making top rankings list when compared to other cities across the country. The city’s fireworks show was recently called out by WalletHub.
