Student Threatened Shooting At St. Pete Middle School: Police

An eighth-grade student at John Hopkins Middle School faces charges after threatening a mass shooting on campus, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An eighth-grader at John Hopkins Middle School faces charges after threatening a school shooting on campus.

The 15-year-old boy made the threat in a social media post, which was reported to the school resource officer, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

The student was arrested at his home Monday and charged with making a written threat to kill, a second-degree felony.

“The St. Petersburg Police Department takes all school threats very seriously for the safety of our students. Threatening comments/posts will always be investigated and result in serious consequences,” the agency said.
