AT&T Ramps Up Coverage With 4G LTE In 4 Tampa Bay Counties

TAMPA, FL — Making good on its commercial slogan, "Just OK is not OK," AT&T customers and FirstNet subscribers in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties got a big boost in wireless connectivity. AT&T added eight new cell sites to enhance 4G LTE coverage in the area and help give residents and first responders faster, more reliable wireless service.

The new sites are benefiting:

• The residential community along Livingston Avenue, between Collier Parkway and Newberg Road in Lutz.
• The residential area along Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard North, between 29th Avenue North and 25th Avenue North in St. Petersburg.
• The commercial and residential areas along North Hercules Avenue, between Range Road and Weaver Park Drive in Clearwater.
• The residential area along Gulf Trace Boulevard, just west of Summervale Drive in Holiday.
• The residential area along Orange Boulevard, between Broadway Boulevard Southeast and Appaloosa Hill Road in Polk City.
• The commercial and residential areas along South Florida Avenue, between Pipkin Road and West Alamo Drive in Lakeland.
• The residential area along Moon Lake Road, between Banbury and Havana avenues.
• The residential area along Silver Palm Boulevard just south of State Road 52 in Land O’ Lakes.

These upgrades will also benefit public safety and first responders on FirstNet – public safety’s dedicated communications platform.

FirstNet is being built with AT&T in a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority. It’s designed to help first responders in Florida and across the country connect to the critical information they need – when they need it – so they can keep themselves and the communities they serve safer.

With 4G LTE service, they’ll be able to experience better network connectivity while streaming videos, sharing on social media or texting family and friends,” said Joe York, AT&T Florida president. “We consistently work to provide better coverage for the community and its first responders. And we’re investing in our wireless network to accomplish that.”

AT&T completed more than 2,500 upgrades to the Florida wireless network in 2019, including nearly 400 in the Tampa market, to increase coverage, capacity and mobile Internet speeds for customers. From 2016 to 2018, AT&T invested more than $3.2 billion in the Florida wireless and wired networks, including more than $175 million in Tampa networks.
