Trolley Driver Attacked In Downtown St. Pete Near Pier: Police

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority driver was attacked on his parked trolley in downtown St. Petersburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Obdulio Chacon, 46, was charged with aggravated battery and booked into the Pinellas County Jail, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

The driver was on a break near the entrance to the St. Pete Pier just before 5 p.m. While getting back on his trolley to continue his route, he was attacked by an unknown man, later identified as Chacon, police said.

The driver, who isn’t being identified, was brought by ambulance to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Evidence collected during the investigation led detectives to identify Chacon as a suspect, police said. The Largo Police Department helped in making the arrest.
