Utility Rate Increases Considered For St. Pete Residents: City

St. Petersburg utility customers will have a chance to weigh in on proposed billing rate increases at public meetings.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — City of St. Petersburg utility customers could see changes to their billing rates this fall.

Sanitation customers could see a $1.32 increase monthly in the new fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1, while potable water customers could see a $2.64 rate change, the city shared on its website.

Wastewater customers face a proposed $7.04 monthly increase. Stormwater and reclaimed water customers could also see slight increases.

“Utility fees support the continued efforts to increase the capacity and reliability of St. Pete's water resources, sanitation and stormwater utilities,” the city said in a news release. “Fees also support the operations, maintenance and infrastructure of those utilities. Utility fees are vitally important in supporting St. Pete's aging infrastructure, most of which has reached or exceeded its design lifespan.”

Customers will have a chance to weigh in on the proposed changes before they’re adopted.
The St. Petersburg City Council will hold a first reading of the suggested rates during its Aug. 17 meeting at city hall.

The council will host a formal public hearing, including a full presentation on the rates, on Sept. 7. That day, council members will consider them for final adoption.

St. Petersburg utility rates and charges are evaluated and updated each year.
