The St. Petersburg Police Department is on the trail of a man it says bears an uncanny resemblance to the children’s book character Waldo.

The crime in question took place around 3:15 p.m. Dec. 18 at 2400 Dr. Martin Luther King St. N. Police say a man entered the store and asked a clerk to see a particular diamond ring. When the clerk obliged, the man took the gem and fled the store.

The encounter was captured on the store’s surveillance video, which shows a man in dress clothes, a red tie and a hat checking out the ring before making his retreat from the store.
