Woman Killed in Drug Deal Gone Bad, Cops Say
The incident happened late Monday evening in St. Petersburg.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating the Monday night death of a woman in the area of 13th Avenue and 28th Street North.
According to police, the incident unfolded around 10:40 p.m. when the woman called the person police are describing only as the suspect to the area. Police say she did so “to purchase narcotics,” according to an email to media.
When the suspect arrived at the scene, the woman approached the driver’s door of the vehicle and an argument broke out, police wrote.

“A witness advised the victim appeared to have reached inside the suspect’s vehicle through the driver’s door as it drove forward,” the email stated.
The woman disengaged from the car and struck the pavement.

The victim was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where she later died.
Police say they have a lead in the manslaughter case, but no arrests have been made as of yet.
The woman has been identified as Verna How, 30.
