Woman Killed in I-275 Crash

A 25-year-old woman is dead following a motorcycle crash on Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Giovanni Castro, 35, of North Port was heading south on the interstate near 54th Avenue South around 7:35 p.m. when his Suzuki left the road, went onto the shoulder and struck a guardrail. The bike then traveled down the embankment and struck several trees.

Castro and his passenger, Samira Silva, were both thrown from the bike.

Silva, a highway patrol report said, died at the scene. Castro was taken to Bayfront Hospital with critical injuries.

Charges are pending, troopers say.
