Tallahassee teen arrested, charged with sexual battery (wctv.tv) — A 17-year-old Tallahassee resident has been arrested and charged as an adult with sexual battery on a physically incapacitated person after DNA evidence linked him to a 2024 incident, according to court documents. Investigators say surveillance video and forensic testing of the victim's clothing led to the arrest, and the teen is currently being held in the Leon County Jail without bond.

Florida State University welcomes nearly 6,000 first-year students for new academic year (tallahasseesun.com) — Thousands of new students are about to arrive in Tallahassee as Florida State University welcomes nearly 6,000 first-year students and expands programs that tie closely into the local community and economy. With record retention rates, new academic pathways through Tallahassee State College, and major construction projects on campus, residents can expect a busier city and growing university footprint this fall.
   

3. Fish l Hunt FL app now lets hunters report alligator harvests online starting Aug. 15 (weartv.com) — From Tallahassee, wildlife officials are rolling out a convenient new way for alligator hunters to report their harvests through the Fish | Hunt FL app starting Aug. 15. Hunters still must log key details within 24 hours, but can now do it digitally or temporarily on paper if they're out of cell range, streamlining compliance across Florida's alligator hunts.
   

4. Fans can 'plant the spear' at Tallahassee International Airport with new interactive display (wctv.tv) — Travelers passing through Tallahassee International Airport can now step onto turf, pose in front of a Doak Campbell Stadium backdrop, and "plant the spear" at Florida State University's new interactive display. Designed by FSU's Master Craftsman Studio and University Marketing, the installation lets fans celebrate Tallahassee's college football tradition and share photos from the terminal.
